🙂 saying hello to the grid after an eternity :: nothing particularly new ~ in love with Birdie ~ in love with Host ~ in love with film & literature & writing & moving my body ~ being tender with myself as I overcome the violent throws of vertigo & hearing issues I’ve wrestled with a very long time ~ being patient as I wait for a million and one *things* that can only be found with time ~ being met on my walk home yesterday by a piece of smiling trash flailing in the wind, but caught ~ being ~ being ~ being, again and again, everyday until the word “being” feels and looks weird but it’s fine. 🙂
🔥 My most favorite thing about that weekend was developing a huge crush on @aj1x1 (my colleague at the time, husband now!) I remember looking up from across a crowded room & watching him dance his heart out & I was like 😳😳😳! He is & always has been the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen; soul a mile high & a mile wide. This photo is from Psychfest & they handed out weird little psychedelic sunglasses & I’m certain this is a photo of a stage, but it may as well be of Birdie, because this is pretty much what I saw! We ended up officially dating one whole long year of longing later 🥰🔥
✨My friend & Host colleague @clairethepoet made a new playlist for @hostpublications & it completely reminded me of Psychfest 2011, which took place at the Seaholm Powerplant and was a defining & iconic weekend in my life. Though this playlist isn’t nearly as psychedelic as Claire’s first playlist, it took me back to to a dizzy, dreamy, “anything goes, everything can happen” vibe. ✨posting this look for the grid, because Kate Kelly @katekellytho saw me in this dress last week & told me I remind her of the Empress Tarot card & I leaned in! Feeling fertile in the realm of creativity & love. Feeling tender & brave & motherly & earthly. These are uncertain times, but I feel ready to nurture, inspire, and protect my dearests. ✨
💜 nothing beats a meal with people you love. #AWP20 — you were wonderful. We closed our last night out with a delicious staff meal at @libertybarsa . I’m posting recaps over at @hostpublications , but for now I especially want to say that I’m so grateful for our team & the communities that welcome us. Today, I had the honor of participating in 2 great panels & meeting a ton of new beautiful people. My heart is so full from the love we got over the past 3 days. Onward to bed (!!!) & before we know it: Kansas City. 💜
🎉✨ First official day of #AWP proved to be such a special time for the Host squad! I woke up to a warm sunrise & then breakfast w/ the crew + a nice day of meeting folks & author signings at the bookfair but also omg fluorescents. Afterwards, Schandra and I snapped quick portraits before we all strolled through the park for the I Scream Social AWP reading, where we featured 3 beloved writers, welcomed back so many dear folks for our open mic 🥺 and shared popsicles with new & old friends! Our hearts are so full, we’re so lucky & grateful. We then dragged ourselves towards the Riverwalk to the Host staff & authors dinner-hang where I was served an embarrassingly large horchata that it brought me to tears. We were so tired that we wished to be teleported back to our hotel, and here we are! Oh, at some point during teleportation we saw this rad halo moon, okay! Thanks to my dream team for the special memories. Today was neverending & totally worth it! 🎉✨ #awp2020
